“ We'll be the folks with the books in the bar. ”
As regular genteXters know, we've been reading a lot of men recently. Well, it's time for a female author!
Small Wonder by Barbara Kingsolver
Some of you may know Kingsolver from her fiction (like The Poisonwood Bible) or from her recent book Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life about her year of eating home grown and local food. Kingsolver is known for her vivid portrayal of and love for the natural world; a perspective she brings to all of her work. In this book of essays published soon after September 11th, Kingsolver uses her love of nature to illustrate political points and to bring a larger perspective to the world issues we hear about in the news every day. Small Wonder is a thoughtful book and you will appreciate her prose, whether or not you agree with her points.
I wanted to let you all know the book we'll be reading and I'll post the location soon (after I confirm it with the owner). For those of you who really wanted Geek Love, it's on the horizon.
