Hi everyone,
Please take a moment to vote in the poll for our August selection. This email is rather long. So in an effort not to duplicate information, very short descriptions will be available in the explanation of the poll.
Which book should be our August selection?Tonight was a lot of fun. Virgil's is a cool restaurant. I will definitely go back in the future. Many members felt that the book was difficult to get into. Others thought it was okay but not outstanding. Mosley did a good job developing Easy's character and capturing what life was like for African-Americans in L.A. at that time. But, in other areas the book noticeably lacked.
The dialogue is realistic and well done. However, there are too many unnecessary characters, confusing the reader. The white characters seem to be underdeveloped and one dimensional; and the women, too, seem unrealistically eager to jump into bed with Easy and Mouse. Easy reminded us of detectives of the time like Sam Spade. The plot is not as exciting we hoped, but there is an interesting twist at the end.
