Estimated attendance:  3  people attended.

I am so sorry for the late revision to our meeting date. I am currently on vacation and my return has been delayed due to severe weather conditions. I will (hopefully) be home tomorrow, 9/1. Therefore, this weeks meeting has been postponed until next Sunday 9/7. Time, location and agenda remain the same. Again, I apologize for any inconvenience and sincerely look forward to seeing all of you next Sunday! Christina.

Meeting Agenda:

*I want to learn more about our members including best times and days to meet, what kind of books you’re interested in, favorite authors, etc… as well as the areas you live in so that I can better choose meeting locations. I am very open to suggestions so know that your input is valuable!

*Ofcourse discussing the reading selection for August. The book comes highly recommended according to the reader reviews I’ve seen so I’m looking forward to it.

*Enjoy some good Caribbean food & sangria at Cha Cha Cha.

The reading selection I’ve chosen for the month of August has been changed from Too Good To Be True by E. Lynn Harris to "Why I Love Black Women" by Michael Eric Dyson. See the summary below for details. This book can be purchased at Barnes & Noble, Borders, and Black Expressions.com

*Helpful Hint – I have found many good books at Walmart for great prices so you might want to check there first. Also, Amazon.com often has used copies in good condition for a fraction of the new copy price.

Synopsis
In this open love letter to black women everywhere, Michael Eric Dyson celebrates the strength and beauty of African-American women. From Miss James, his grammar school teacher, to Linda Johnson Rice, who heads the communications empire that publishes Ebony and Jet; from Toni Morrison, whose novels inspired him, as a young welfare dad, to Debbie Bethea, the housecleaner whose labors remind him of his mother in Detroit; from civil rights widow Myrlie Evers-Williams to activist and scholar Angela Davis-and many more-the women in Dyson's pantheon inspire us to remember, "When we love black women, we love ourselves, and the God who made us."

Happy reading and hope to see you all on 8/31!

Your Organizer,
Christina.
