Cinematext investigates the adaptation of literary works to film screenplays. We ask the questions 'why?' and 'how accurately?' when we see "This Movie is Based on?" at the beginning of a film.
We act as a hybrid book/movie club. Each month, we'll decide on a book to read, and we'll meet in the fourth week over pizza and drinks to discuss our opinions of the movie as a re-telling of the story. Topics for books are as diverse as the film industry itself - everything from modern fiction or plays to old war movies are fair game! And, not every movie is prefaced with a disclaimer about it's originality - so this group can bring the lesser-known stories and "old-school" movies to to the table, as well as the modern features.
I'd like to keep the meeting groups fairly small (12-15), so please only sign up for the end-of-month meetups if you're sure you can make the commitment. We'll try to pick reasonably-sized books to fit into our busy schedules, but the group meeting is where we'll all really benefit.
Please introduce yourself, and click on the link for the upcoming meetup below for event details and discussion!
