Hello Brit Lit club members,

We had another great meeting on April 12 to discuss George Eliot's "Silas Marner." Thank you to those who attended and participated. A huge round of applause goes to Jessica who assumed leadership of our April discussion. Thank you, Jessica, for a job well done!

After concluding club administrative matters, those in attendance were chomping at the bit to begin discussing "Silas Marner." Theories flew, igniting a spark of interest that grew to a blaze. Most seemed to agree that they had enjoyed the book. I was the only one to voice a dissenting opinion, and I freely admit that Eliot is not one of my preferred authors. However, a variety of opinions and ideas is what helps fuel a lively discussion. It is not necessary for all members to agree--indeed, it would be rather odd if we did agree on everything! I would hope that all members would feel comfortable enough to freely voice their opinions. Don't worry about bucking the tide.

During its three-month existence, our group has continued to grow. Currently, we have 25 members. Clearly, the Triad has an abundance of people seeking an outlet to share their taste for fine literature!

In March, Theresa agreed to lead our upcoming discussion of "A Study in Scarlet." I'm sure she will do a wonderful job. Personally, I can't wait to discusss Sherlock Holmes--he is one of my all-time favorite literary characters. May's meeting has been posted on the Meetup site. So please don't forget to file your RSVP. Be sure to bring along any Holmes memorabilia you own and/or wear some piece of apparel reminiscent of the period.

If you haven't already done so, be sure to look at the photos of the Mad Hatter Tea Party held on April 20. Jen and I had a wonderful time.

I have updated the list of literary films showing on cable TV between now and the end of June. If you know of any appropriate films that I have overlooked, please let me know so that I can further amend the list. As always, the list can be found on the Message Board.

See you all on May 10, and thanks to everyone for making this such a wonderful group!

Yours etc.,
Kathryn
