The Thirteenth Tale: Discussion 1

I have long been drawn to a story about the connection between twins. I think it's a reminder of the innate connection you can have with another human being. Whether it's because of being a twin or because you have a strong soul-like connection, being able to feel and understand what another person is thinking or going through is somewhat of a phenomenon. I always wonder - if we used more of our brains, would we be able to do this more often? Would we have more of a sixth sense?

As the story is unfolding, I'm enraptured by Vida Winter. I want to know her secrets so desperately and I can't understand how Margaret is so calm and patient. My curiosity is killing me. She's created so many characters for herself - my anticipation is the real one is probably more exciting than any of the others.

My question, to you readers, is: If you could create a character for yourself, who would you be? What would you be like? What would you have experienced? Where would you live? When would you have lived?
