There is an ancient Greek saying that a large book is a great evil. This then is the anti-Michener book club. It is dedicated to and designed for the slow reader, the time challenged, thee of little patience, and anyone who appreciates the likes of Norman Maclean.
So, we will bypass the bloated and trim our sails toward the elegant. We will read wonderful fiction, non-fiction, throw in a detective story (the good ones are always short) or trashy thriller, and maybe even a Plato dialogue here and there to placate those of you in need of excessive intellectual stimulation.
This is a hybrid book club. We will meet outdoors whenever possible, e.g. take a hike in Umstead, visit a garden, etc. That way, we get a little exercise for mind and body. We may have a Bring Your Dog to the Book Club day. And so on. Ideas are welcome.
