The next meeting will be at Chanpen Thai, an affordable Thai restaurant a few blocks from Times square. Most entrees are $15, a Thai beer is $5. Menu: http://www.chanpentha...

This is the speech that then Harvard president Larry Summers made in 2005 about reasons other than discrimination for the lack of tenured women in mathematics and the sciences. It cost him his job. It's pretty long. Note that if you read it carefully, he does not say, as he is widely accused of saying, that women are less intelligent than men. http://web.archive.or...

This is a recent piece by Nancy Hopkins, a molecular biology professor at MIT, who fled the room during Summers' above speech because "I felt I was going to be sick. ... My heart was pounding and my breath was shallow.". Ann Coulter described Hopkins' reaction as "womanish". http://www.more.com/2...

Hi Z, Thanks for that post. I just watched the Pinker - Spelke debate - 2 hours. It was very intelligently argued on both sides, and especially good because the two personally liked each other, so it didn't devolve into stupid name-calling.
