What's special about this book club? We meet in the Midtown area. We are a diverse group of people. If I had to generalize in any way, I think a majority of the attendees are professionals in their 30s, but that is not at all a required demographic; just how it seems to have been turning out. There are just a few of us who come to almost every meeting, otherwise the attendees at each meeting varies a bit.
All that is required is an open mind, and a sense of humor always helps. I want to be sure the group can get into a healthy debate or dialogue, but not any mean-spirited arguing. We have some interesting, intellectual discussions, but we also have fun just socializing.
I originally started this group for sort of selfish reasons. I have a chronic "MS like" neurological illness (unfortunately no specific name tag, but not contagious) which limits how much I can be on my feet and carry things, and get out and go to other people's homes or locations, like a Starbucks etc.. So that's why I wanted to have a group in my own home. However, I have a very small apartment, so we have been having meetings at one of our member's homes in East Sacramento.
But now that the days are longer, and the weather has warmed up, we are meeting in the back of my apartment complex in a little outdoor gathering area. This is easier for me as long as I can just walk back there, lie on my chaise lounge and have some help carrying things there and back.
We had a meeting in this location last September and then again not until just recently on May 26, and hopefully everyone felt that it was a comfortable venue. We meet the last Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m.
Look forward to seeing old members and meeting new ones!

This month we are reading Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin. This is the inspiring true story of a mountain climber's experience in establishing the first school in a remote area of Pakistan.
Enjoy!
