JUNE MEETING CANCELLED, MOVED TO JULY.

Please come and join us for an interesting discussion on secular beliefs and how they play in public life, including public discourse.

Title: Secular Conscience: Why Belief Belongs in Public Life
By: Austin Dacey

Austin Dacey's The Secular Conscience is sorely needed at a time when both the religious right and the religious left claim that there can be no public or private morality without religion. With wit and a philosopher's insight, Dacey explains exactly why secular morality, grounded in an ethical approach that relies on reason rather than supernatural faith, is sorely needed in the public square.

PS: For those who attended in May, the Real McCain book was not available through the library system and I went with another recommendation made that evening. My apologies if you already started the McCain book.

Austin Dacey is a philosopher who writes on the intersection of science, religion, and ethics. He serves as a respresentative to the United Nations for the Center for Inquiry, a think tank concerned with the secular, scientific outlook. He is also on the editorial staff of Skeptical Inquirer and Free Inquiry magazines. His writings have appeared in numerous publications including the New York Times, USA Today, and Science. His lecture here was compelling, hope you enjoy the book!
