Our July book selection is Courtroom 302:A Year Behind the Scenes in an American Criminal Courthouse by Steve Bogira which is set in Chicago.

"Starred Review. Chicago-based journalist Bogira's first book is an outstanding journey inside the American criminal justice system that nicely complements last year's Blue Blood, Edward Conlon's inside look at the life of a big-city cop. Like that instant classic, this book—centered on the Cook County Criminal Courthouse, "the biggest and busiest felony courthouse in the nation"—punctures the popular myths engendered by TV shows like Law and Order to provide a balanced view of the realities of the day-to-day, assembly-line grind that marks so much of the process from arrest to final disposition." - Publishers Weekly

To take full advantage of the short Chicago summers, we will be meeting at Castaways Bar & Grill at North Ave. Beach. It is on the 2nd floor of that steamboat structure at the North Ave. exit on Lakeshore Drive.

In case of rain in the forecast, an update 24hrs. in advance will be sent to notify of alternate.

Don't forget to go to the website and vote for next months book selection.

Our June book selection is Freakonomics, by Steven D. Levitt. Freakonomics is an interesting series of economic-based vignettes that will restock your reservoir of cocktail party musings.

We will be meeting at Uncommon Ground to match Dr. Levitt's uncommon thinking about the world. They have great food and drink so bring your appetite.

There couldn't be a more befitting book for our initial meeting than:

"The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America"

UPDATE: We will be meeting at Medici on 57th, a popular restaurant in Hyde Park. This is close by to the Midway Plaisance between Jackson Park and Washington Park featured in our book. Great location for those who choose to peruse the fair grounds after our discussion.

Medici is a BYOB, so if you would like alchohol feel free to bring some along.
