Retired businessman whose hobby is literary fiction. Collect American classics and selected non-fiction in hard back - more than 1000 on the shelf. Russian-born wife is Russian language literary junky. We crave conversation with like-minded readers.
All the English language classics - Hemingway, Steinbeck, Roth, Updike, Doctorow, Irving, Vidal and Morrison, but also good reads by the likes of Lescroart, LeCarre, Hillerman, Clavel, and Richard North Patterson. Crazy about Annie Proulx.
There must be people out there who also enjoy literture and sharing insights.
As impossible as saying which of my children is the favorite. Beloved for sheer craftsmanship, Loon Lake for elegant prose that approaches poetry, A Prayer for Owen Meany that proves humor can be a part of serious lirerature, Updike's "Rabbit" books.
All of us enjoy general, escapist literature, but our members have "moved on" to the really stimulating stuff of the sort that wins book awards where characters become real, nuanced people, plots are complex, and often, unpredictable, and the English language is celebrated in all its infinite and facinating beauty. We limit attendence to ten only and cheerfully strike from membership anyone who thoughtlessly sends an RSVP and then reneges.
