This was Barbara's choice - yay! some rock and roll for the group. The movie "High Fidelity" is one of my favorites and all the die hards say the book is even better so I say bring it on! Click here to read about it.

Oohweee.....my turn to pick a book. Michael Chabon is one of my favorite writers - and I haven't had the chance to read this one yet - even though it's been on my night able for months. I promise you will love his story and his style of writing. If you haven't read his "Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay" - pick that one up too. Click here to read about the book and the author.

There is a reason we took a long break into 2008. Our next book was recommended by Natalie. She is so passionate about it that I thought it would be a good start for 2008. But, since it is very long(about 600 pages) -I figured I'd give everyone a good month to read it and then we'll go back to our every two weeks schedule. Click here to read about the book. I'm excited to read about it because Natalie loved it so much and I caught her enthusiasm! And it looks like you can get it for about $4 on amazon.com or I'm sure at the library or HalfPrice. Can't wait to hear what everyone thinks about it as the book critics seemed to love it!

Will Clarke has been nagging me most of the year to read this one so finally! I found an opportunity to slip it into the group. It sounds intriguing and very funny. Click here to get a preview! UPDATE: Remember, for everyone that attends - this is also our Christmas party. So bring your cheer, anything to drink and eat, and we are doing a 'white elephant' gift exchange. So bring the worst gift you ever got and want to get rid of or something awful you found while Christmas shopping. Nothing serious, please!! And wrap it well.

WOOHOO! Another fantasy book - I love it. This was recommended by Cathy and I don't know if I can wait until December to read it. We all so loved "The Stolen Child" and this almost has shades of that. Rock on. Here's a link to give you some information. We could be very motivated and have some Russian food and drink.....

This book sounds intriguing and was recommended by Pat. As she asked me in her email - I think it would be a great idea if we all bought books to donate to the actual Kenya Bookmobile in Kenya. I know I have some. I'll try to remind everyone the closer we get to the date. Here's a link to what the book is about. And also please take a moment, to hit this link and read about the real Camel Bookmobile - it's quite fascinating and what a wonderful organization.

Barbara recommended this one and it's fiction so I say 'great' as it's been a while since our last fiction novel. OK, the Dave Eggers book doesn't really count as fiction, does it? Click here to get a preview. And since it has Paris and Moon in the title - let's make it a theme discussion. If you'd like to bring anything food or drink related to the moon (moonpies, anyone?) or Paris (perhaps some wine or brie cheese) - please feel free.

I had to step in for a second and recommend this brand new book. It just so looks like the perfect fit for our club and being from Florida and having been to Weeki Wachee - it will be a fun read. Carter follows her plucky New York journalist's memoir Nothing to Fall Back On and first novel The Orange Blossom Special with another sweet story of self-reinvention. Delores Walker, 17, leaves her troubled home in the Bronx of 1973 to become a mermaid at Weeki Wachee Springs in Tampa, Fla. There, in a series of fortuitous events, ugly duckling Delores becomes the star of the show, a local hero, the most popular girl in town (although she remains unfailingly nice) and the catalyst for an unlikely family reunion. Carter jumps from head to head without providing much insight into her characters, including the slimily manipulative and ambitious TV producer, Alan Sommers, and the gentle circus giant, T. Rex, who's little more than a vehicle for folksy wisdom. But Carter is less interested in character development than in storytelling, which she does with aplomb, as Delores faces fame-related conflicts, and resort owner Thelma Foote has wisdom to spare. The results are sensationalist, predictable and satisfying. (Aug.) Since it's new - some libraries may not have it yet so it might be a buy.

Will Clarke, author of "The Worthy", will be making his second appearance at our book club to meet everyone and talk about his book. We all loved his last visit so I'm hoping for even a bigger turnout! He's great fun if you missed him last time around. And yes, he'll autograph your books! So, for me, I guess it means I have to take it out of the freezer...(those of you that know that story know what I mean!)
