You'll get invited to our Meetups as soon as they're scheduled!
Hello everyone and thank you for checking out my group here. I'm very excited about how things are going so far and really think that if you're looking for a great opportunity to discuss and learn more about Existential fiction and philosophy, and eventually all manner of tangents thereof, then you've come to the right place.
Although we've started with Sartre, I have had the goal of modeling a reading list after the chronological anthology displayed in Walter Kaufmann's "Existentialism from Dostoyevsky to Sartre", listed on Amazon here: http://tinyurl.com/26.... It's been an inspirational book for me, and I highly recommend that everyone try to pick it up and at least get a sense of his structure.
If we follow Kaufmann as I've hoped, then after we get through some more Sartre-- Nausea, the short stories, plays and some essays like Transendence of the Ego (http://tinyurl.com/yx... we'd go back to discuss Dostoyevsky's pre-Existentialist classic Notes From Underground, then move on to major works from Kierkegaard and Nietzsche, and selected things from Rilke, Kafka, Ortega, Jaspers, Heidegger, as well as popular stuff from Camus, Simone de Beauvoir and Samuel Beckett.
I have high hopes and ambitions for a club and group like this, but I'm flexible and open to discussion about how to make it as fun and rewarding as possible. Feel free to email me and use the message boards to start up any discussions that you'd like to.
