Hi Folks
At the April Meetup I suggested an idea put forward by Patricia on the message board that members can nominate books in advance of the next meetup - this one being May. All you have to do is reply to this message, include the title and author of the book you're nominating, say whether it's fiction or non-fiction, an a wee bit of blurb to say what it's about. This could be the synopsis on the back of the cover or, a more detailed summary including why you would recommend it to the group. Then, I will print off the list and bring it along to the meeting to allow everyone to vote on the nominations. There will still be an opportunity to nominate on the night, but this is just another option. So, what book has inspired, entertained, amazed, moved or excited you? Get nominating below! Lesley |

Hey there
![]() The book I'd like to nominate is called Marley and Me by John Grogan - nothing at all to do with Reggae ... and here's the blurb John and Jenny were young and deeply in love, with a perfect little house and not a care in the world. Then they brought home Marley, a wiggly yellow furball of a puppy ... Life would never be the same. Marley quickly grew into an unconrollable ninety-seven pound steamroller of a labrador retreiver. Expelled from obedience school, even the tranquillisers prescribed by the vet couldn't stop him. Yet through the chaos and hilarity he won hearts and remained a steadfast model of devotion to the family, even when they were at their wit's end. Unconditional love, they would learn comes in many forms. This is a fab laugh out loud feel good book - I read it in 2 hrs ... definately a Sunday afternoon/duvet day read ![]() It is also a true story ... Marley was John Grogan's dog! |

This is a great idea! I love the nomination of Marley & Me - have had it recommended to me before and is one on my "must read list"
I would like to nominate Nobody Loves A Ginger Baby by Laura Marney. I have just read another of her books and thought it was very funny and bittersweet. Laura Marney works at Glasgow University and this is her second novel Amazon says ..... My friend recommended this book after returning from holiday, and thank god she did. What a laugh!!! I giggled myself silly on the train to and from work. It was everything: funny, sad and wonderfully absurd, just about the best way to describe how people are these days. This was the perfect antidote to a dull summer of nine-to-five and lifeless conversation. Laura Marney is a lot of fun. ps its only £5 at Tesco |
