We will be reading Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your American History Textbook Got Wrong by James W. Loewen.

This nonfiction book aims to show why Americans have lost touch with their history. The author surveyed 12 American History textbooks and found blind patriotism, mindless optimism, sheer misinformation, and outright lies. He also found that these textbooks omitted almost all the ambiguity, passion, conflict, and drama from our past.

Loewen's national bestseller seeks to add truth and interest back to history.

Remember that this meetup will be held at the Panera Bread on Dussell Drive in Maumee. I hope to see you there and remember feel free to come for the conversation and company even if you don't get a chance to finish or start the book.

I thought we were meeting on Tuesdays... Is this one really on Monday? I can still come but I wanted to make sure I have the date right. If it is Tuesday I have a conflict.

Hey Shannon, I most likely won't get a chance to read the book, but I'm interested in the discussion. I'll make every effort to be there!

    •  Shannon was very organized, and had good thought provoking questions regarding the subject of the book itself. That being said, I really enjoyed meeting and hearing everyone elses thoughts. (I already knew my own, but gained some insight listening to everyone else. Thanks)
