What Book Changed Your Life?

For the very first meetup of the Denver Book Club, please come prepared to talk about the one book you've read within the past five years that's most powerfully changed your life. Your book could be nonfiction or fiction. If you prefer, simply come and listen to other booklovers tell their story. At the end, we'll take a group vote on which book we'll read for the next monthly meetup, and perhaps for the next three months. This choice of how far ahead to plan will be ours.

This seems like a good way to get started. If you have a better suggestion, please speak up. With more than 150 of us waiting so patiently for the Denver Book Club meetup finally to start, there's bound to be a lot of pent-up creativity and brilliance among us waiting to burst out and shine.

If you have not yet RSVP'd, or if your RSVP was "maybe," please confirm today.

LOCATION: The Denver Press Club has offered us the free use of their historic facility in downtown Denver for our first meetup gathering on February 20. The Press Club bar will be open, in case you wish to come a little early and possibly meet some of Denver top journalists. We'll start our meeting upstairs promptly at 7 PM.

The oldest continuously operating press club in America, the Denver Press Club is at 1330 Glenarm Place, across from the Denver Athletic Club. Arrive early for the limited free parking behind the press club (off the alley), plus there are free spaces on the north side between the Press Club and the Colorado Press Association. If these are full, there's a spacious and affordable paid parking lot to the south side of the Press Club (do not park in the monthly parking spaces, however).

By the way, if we choose to meet outside of downtown, the Barnes and Noble store on South Colorado Boulevard has offered space to us for future meetings. If we stay at the Press Club, however, we'll have access to the major touring authors, such as Walter Isaacson, President and CEO of the Aspen Institute, past Chairman and CEO of CNN, and former Managing Editor of Time Magazine, who will speak at the Denver Press Club in early May.
