SUMMARY:The Longmont Book Club June Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Book Club Meetups > The Longmont Book Club Meetup Group\n\nAs a
lways our Members pick out the best books for us and we appreciate it!\n\nT
hree Bestsellers for June\, July and August ...\n\nFor our June 21st Meetup
\, Patty's selection is "The Secret Life of Bees"by Sue Monk Kidd \nSet
in the American south in 1964\, the year of the Civil Rights Act and inten
sifying racial unrest is a powerful coming of age story of the ability of l
ove to transform our lives. \n\nFor July\, April has given us a
wake up call with "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy. Set in the smoking ashes
of a postapocalyptic America\, the story of a man and his son's journey tow
ard the sea and uncertain salvation. An unflinching meditation on the wors
t and the best that we are capable of: ultimate destructiveness\, desperate
tenacity\, and the tenderness that keeps two people alive in the face of t
otal devastation. \n\nAugust will be here before you know it and Wendy'
s bestselling choice is "Water for Elephants" by Sara Gruen. \nAn atmospher
ic\, gritty\, and compelling novel of star-crossed lovers\, set in the circ
us world circa 1932. \nWhen Jacob Jankowski\, recently orphaned and suddenl
 y adrift\, jumps onto a passing train\, he enters a world of freaks\, drift
ers and misfits\, a second-rate circus struggling to survive during the Gre
at Depression\, making one-night stands in town after endless town A veter
inary student \, Jacob is put in charge of caring for the circus menagerie.
It is there that he meets Marlena\, the beautiful star of the equestrian
act\, who is married to August\, the charismatic but twisted animal trainer
. He also meets Rosie\, an elephant who seems untrainable until he discove
rs a way to train her. \nBeautifully written\, "Water for for Elephants" is
illuminated by a wonderful sense of time and place. A story of love betwe
en two people overcoming incredible odds in a world where love is a luxury
few can afford. \n\n*Other points of discussion were\; \n \nWe will con
tinue to meet at Borders except for gatherings that aren't "book of the mon
th" \nWe will fill the months of Sept.\, Oct.\, and Dec.\, months that as
of now don't have a book selected. \nWe aren't planning on Sandi Ault vi
siting our Book Club at this time. If I hear from her I'll let everyone kn
ow. \n\nThanks to everyone for another great meeting! \n\nSee "Messages
" on the sidebar for the complete book list with Sept\, Oct\, and Dec soon
 to come!\n\nLongmont\, CO 80503 - USA\n\nSaturday\, June 21 at 10:00 AM\n\
