SUMMARY:Good in Bed by Jennifer Weiner
DESCRIPTION:Book Club Meetups > The Pittsburgh Chick Lit Book Club\n\nThis
month's selection is Good in Bed\, by Jennifer Weiner. I know a lot of you
have read it\, so please join us to discuss! (I actually have not read it
yet)\n\nHere are the details from Amazon.com:\n\nFrom Publishers Weekly\nI
t is temping at first but unwise to assume Candace Shapiro is yet another B
ridget Jones. Feisty\, funny and less self-hating than her predecessor\, Ca
nnie is a 28-year-old Philadelphia Examiner reporter preoccupied with her w
eight and men\, but able to see the humor in even the most unpleasant of li
fe's broadsides. Even she is floored\, however\, when she reads "Good in Be
d\," a new women's magazine column penned by her ex-boyfriend\, pothead gra
d student Bruce Guberman. Three months earlier\, Cannie suggested they take
a break apparently\, Bruce thought they were through and set about making
such proclamations as\, "Loving a larger woman is an act of courage in our
world." Devastated by this public humiliation\, Cannie takes comfort in teq
uila and her beloved dog\, Nifkin. Bruce has let her down like another man
in her life: Cannie's sadistic\, plastic surgeon father emotionally abused
her as a young girl\, and eventually abandoned his wife and family\, leavin
g no forwarding address. Cannie's siblings suffer\, especially the youngest
\, Lucy\, who has tried everything from phone sex to striptease. Their toug
h-as-nails mother managed to find love again with a woman\, Tanya\, the gra
vel-voiced owner of a two-ton loom. Somehow\, Cannie stays strong for famil
 y and friends\, joining a weight-loss group\, selling her screenplay and ga
ining the maturity to ask for help when she faces something bigger than her
  fears. Weiner's witty\, original\, fast-moving debut features a lovable he
roine\, a solid cast\, snappy dialogue and a poignant take on life's priori
ties. This is a must-read for any woman who struggles with body image\, or
for anyone who cares about someone who does. \n\nUpstairs at Doc's in Shady
side - http://www.docsplacepittsburgh.com/ for directions\, but it is right
at the corner of Walnut and Bellefonte\n\nPlease remember that if you don'
t want to buy the book\, you can borrow it from your local Carnegie library
 - go to carnegie library and you can even request to have it sent to your b
ranch from another branch!\n\nHope to see you there :)\n\nPittsburgh\, PA
