The Group is a Book Discussion and Progressive Review Club. The club started as a book club only but is during the 2009 and 2010 period reforming its needs and reassessing its future. As a result, we read books, take time to discuss them, but also work to utilize the skills and ideas these books provide. We seek out others who are making their path and wanting to share with us their journey as well as assist us in making our journey forward stronger. Please feel free to share your thoughts and actions.
We are often seeking answers from questions in life which appear to have no answers. As a group, we are seeking to improve our knowledge, debate with character and share ideas that provide us a chance to grow. This group works closely to provide the skills and capabilities to take action where you wish, follow your path, and take time to really understand the political process.
"Propaganda is to a democracy what the bludgeon is to a totalitarian state" - a thought that's perhaps more true today than when Noam Chomsky wrote it. If you think it would be fun to get together once in a while with some other free thinkers and read stuff that has more democracy and less propaganda - this could be the group for you. Academics like Chomsky and Zinn, works like Common Sense and the Federalist Papers, and more news-oriented authors like Greg Palast and Amy Goodman would all be interesting options to read and share ideas about. Hopefully this group will help us inform ourselves about some of the ideas and information that are shaping the progressive side of the debate, in a fun and lively way.
This book (The Dark Side: The Inside Story of How the War on Terror Turned into a War on American Ideals, by Jane Mayer) might be good discussion up the road.
