About The SF World Literature and Food Book Club

Meet kindred book and food lovers and explore the world and different cultures through a mix of fiction, non-fiction and food.
Each month we will select a book that takes place in another culture (or American subculture) and meet in a cafe or restauant connected to the theme of the book to enjoy food and discuss the book.
We'll try to pick eating locations that are relatively low cost, ideally $10-$20 per person. Generally ordering will be family style, so we can try more foods. We have had no problem accommodating vegetarians and other specific diets.
Come to laugh, eat yummy and interesting foods, debate the merits of the selected book, share favorite reads, make new friends, and expect to go home sated!

I don't like rules, they're meant to be broken anyway. But with this type of event: in a restaurant (which limits the number that can attend) and with advanced planning required (you need time to read the book, so a last minute change does not allow another to take your place) no-shows end up taking away from other members who take commitments seriously.

So, here are the rules:
Actually there is only 1. Please do not rsvp yes if you do not intend to read the book and come to the event.

-if you just don't show up (with no change to rsvp) you will be deleted
-if you change your rsvp from yes to no too frequently you'll be deleted, (I know people have changes of plans and work obligations so it's ok to do this occasionly but don't make it a habit.) If you do change your rsvp to no, and do it early (more than 2 weeks before the event) I'll probably not hold it against you.

I'd like to have more events each month, either repeats of the same event or a different book. If anyone who after attending an event would like to be an assist organizer let me know. For now I'd like to limit this to people I have met that have demonstrated their reliability.

For those that do not make it in to an event, check back as people will change their rsvp (because of the rules above, see how that works.) If you do read the book and do not get in, email me before the event and I'll see if I can squeeze you in (this will depend on how many requests I get.)

Enjoy our group!
