I'll be wearing a red sweater, and e-mail those who RSVP that they are coming my phone number closer to the event in case anyone gets lost.

Come one, come all! Celebrate the 6 month anniversary of the New York Nonfiction Reading Club with food, drink, and pleasant company. Wai Cafe has a full bar and a very nice menu, so you can just come for a drink but I imagine there will a group or two that might stay for dinner too.
The ENTIRE back room is just for us, and the place is relatively quiet, so you can actually hear other people talk. Please come for the chance to meet and maybe casually discuss books or news or whatever else you want with friends and friends-you-haven't-met yet. Though it's OK if you're just coming for the beer 'n food too. :)

I can't seem to find the menu online, but it's New American and very good. You'll have to trust me on this, and the five other people who came to an early dinner & meeting here once and raved about the food.

Come celebrate:

1. Our 6 month anniversary. Happy Anniversary to Us!!

2. An experimental bar meeting-

I'd like to maybe occasionally do an event like this where instead of having a discussion of a book we have a discussion of an interesting nonfiction article, though it would be more informal and we can just mingle around and ask different people what they thought of the newspaper or magazine story and/or whatever else they have been reading. This way people who know that they are really going to be too busy with work to read all of say May's book can still have a chance to socialize with other readers, and get some intellectual stimulation.

You may ask, "but how is this different from the same ol' bar scene I joined this group to get away from?"

Well, the answer is, "Yes, you are in a bar, but we are one big cozy NY Nonfiction Reading Group family with which you have so much in common! So instead of coming up with or batting away cheezy pick-up lines, you can relax and discuss, say, your current favorite nonfiction book.

There will be a drink special of $3 beers and $4 wines.

Sound like fun? Well, come and check it out!

    •  What a fun thing to have a totally social meeting once in a while with such interesting, well-informed people.
    •  Nice, well rounded group; as comfortable with a glass of booze in hand as they are with a good book.
    •  Great idea! Would like a different venue next time.
    •  This was my first meetup with this group and I had the best time. A wonderful group of very intelligent and warm people. It's one of the most enjoyable meetups I ever been too :-)
    •  Nice first meeting. Now I know what to do with my old books. I read some interesting "lists".

    •  This was a great meet up for numerous reasons. Wonderful opportunity to talk and meet with other members in a more social milieu -- excellent idea, Leah, to bring people together, particularly those who have not been to previous reading events and wanted to come and meet other members. And nice to celebrate Alan's b-day. Also, appreciated the philanthropic factor -- I like your ideas of bringing books to donate for a worthy cause and would be interested in hearing about the results of this. And discussing non-fiction articles is another great idea you posed recently. Perhaps from the Economist or other magazines?
