Since we're reading Triangle, which is about a fire in the Jewish-dominated LES garment industry, stroll with us through more than 150 years of Jewish history on the East Side. Tour combines historic and religious sites, politics and people of what was once the largest Jewish community in the world. Stops could include: the founding site of the B’nai B’rith, the Jewish Daily Forward building, the historic Eldridge Street Synagogue, and sites associated with Rabbi Jacob Joseph, Abraham Cahan, and Lillian Wald. Though a partnership with the 1654 Society, tour may include a visit inside the historic colonial cemetery of Congregation Shearith Israel

A $3 per person donation may be required to visit this cemetery, on top of the $15 per person tour fee (or $12 for students/seniors). Please also remember to bring a couple bucks to tip the tour guide with.

There may be an additional trip to a local eatery afterwards for anyone who is hungry.

This is a joint event with the NY Judaism Meetup Group: http://jewishconvert....

    •  It starting raining around 10:30 or 10:45, but everything cleared up just as the tour started. Weather held out for the entire walk, the highlight of which is definitely the newly restored Eldridge Street Synagogue. Wow. Also loved the other synagogue, the rundown Beth Hamedrash Hagodol, although it needs some TLC. Sorry we didn't get to see the Henry Street Settlement, it was a couple of blocks away & Triangle briefly mentions founder Lillian Wald. Hopefully it will be covered in the Labor History tour on 9/1. Would definitely recommend this tour for anyone interested in the old Jewish LES.
