Book club over drinks! We hold fortnightly informal discussions of a nominated book. Each member takes turns to decide on the title by considering themes & other members` suggestions etc. Our group is small & friendly; members are both males & females in our late 20s and mid 30s. However, all ages are welcome. We`ll mostly be meeting at cafes, pubs, & gardens in the city & (sometimes we meet elsewhere such as at a beach) on the first and third sat afternoon of the month, & will consider fiction …
The Last Tuesday Book Club is an informal group of reading fans who catch up monthly in inner city Sydney to eat/drink and chat about a good book. We are mainly 30-something professionals, who enjoy reading a wide range of fiction. Our meet ups are a chance to talk about our latest read (pre-chosen) while checking out pubs/restaurants once a month in the City, Surry Hills, Darlinghurst, and eastern suburbs areas.

For book lovers who are either interested in gay fiction, or are readers in the LGBT community, and want to socialise with other book lovers. I'm new to the Western Sydney (Parramatta) area and would love to create a book club to encourage reading of gay fiction, but also to get together with other bookish folk who are either gay or gay friendly. So far nothing is set and I'm open to ideas of how to run it, what to read, where to have it, and all the other fun things behind creating a book club. …
Hi, I've decided to start up this group as I love reading and I think it would be great to meet like-minded women who live "over the bridge" in Sydney ; lower north / NorWest/ Parramatta and would like to have a good read and engage in healthy debate over a glass of wine and nice nosh, or a coffee and piece of cake. We don't want to get too formal, but the "rules" are that one person chooses a book (can be anything, the more varied the better!) and we all read it before meeting up. The meet woul …

Established in 2006, we are book-lovers who meet in the Sydney CBD. We usually meet the first week of the month, on Mondays or Tuesdays from 6:30pm to discuss this month's book. We choose venues that are 5-10mins walk Central or any of the Sydney CBD train stations. Most members are 30-45 years and enjoy reading a variety of books, including fiction, non-fiction and book-to-film adaptions. The group jointly selects books to read every three months. To keep members costs down, we generally favour …

Hi, I've decided to start up this group as I've just moved to Sydney and I'd like to meet some new people who enjoy reading and discussing a book with a glass of wine!! I was doing this with a group of friends back in London and it was great fun! Also new to Meetup but it looks like a good way to meet people but I just can’t see a central Sydney book club. How it worked (although open to ideas): One person suggests a book - preferably something a little difference not off a top 50 list. We all r …

This group is about reading a chosen fictional book that's controversial/classic/historical/cu
ltural or anything we just want to read and then meeting up every 6 weeks or so over dinner to discuss. We will take it in turns to be host. Each meeting we will reconvene at the hosts choice of venue for dinner; either their house or their favorite restaurant. The host can suggest a few books of their choice and then the group will pick a book.
OK Ladies its time to kick back with a favorite summer time read and enjoy discussing it with other women over a nice cold G&T, or vino or maybe a cappuccino!! I wanted to start this group on the northern beaches in particular as I live in Fairlight and want to meet other women over a beverage and a book that stirs the soul. I am pretty easy going so I want this group to be a fun time, where we all get to chat and have a few drinks and food (I also love to cook and eat), or maybe make it a picni …

We meet approximately once a month in a local Sutherland Shire based location. We are a group of 9 (started at 4) and each month a new person chooses a book of choice. Additionally, as part of our Book Club, we also make a non-compulsory donation of around $ 10. It is only a small gesture but one that we feel makes a difference and gives our little club a 'purpose'. The charity of choice resonates with the person who has chosen the "book of the month". We don't work by genre of author - just eac …
No one should ever drink alone and reading a book whilst sipping a Manhattan is ever so fancy. For people that like a great book and a tasty cocktail. An opportunity to meet up at some of Sydney's stylish venues and enjoy a drink and chat minus the pretense. The more the merrier, so if you want to bring along a friend feel free. Unlike traditional book clubs, there will be no home work or required reading criteria. This is an opportunity to have a chat, talk about what you're reading at the mom …
For anyone who enjoys reading faster paced books in the mystery thriller genre
Ever felt that smug glow of satisfaction when watching a film adaptation of a novel you've read, basking in the knowledge that you're fully aware of the hero's pet dog's name even though it was never once mentioned in the movie?!? Welcome to the club! This group is a hybrid mix of a book club and a movie fan club. We read a new book every month, whether it be a classic work of fiction or a more contemporary novel, and then we meet up to watch its film adaptation at a cinema in the city. We then …

A Book Club for bookaholics from the Ghetto/Bronx/Hood (yes, us punks and hipsters from the 'under-appreciated' part of town are ready, willing and able to read - don't look so shocked!) with an Incurable Love for Literature (and the like). Preliminary investigations have lead us to conclude that there is a lack of (if any) established institutions/societies/communities/
clubs (whatever you want to call it) in the South Western Sydney region where bookaholics can congregate and have meaningful an …
This is a group for those who want to join a book club but don't want to travel into the city. We will meet somewhere around St George or Sutherland Shire and are open to suggestions. Also as many book clubs meet at night, I thought it would be great to have one that meets during the day. Mostly we meet once a month on a Sunday as this has in the past proved to work for most people. So we get to read different genres, each member takes a turn to pick the book of the month. What could be bette …

It's a friendly group of welcoming people who love to get together over a book and let the discussion and good times go from there. There's a great core of regulars and always new additions each month who bring their own suggestions and love of reading. We are always welcoming and friendly to new people and ensure they have a good time. We try to fold in book events, readings and authors visiting, smaller clusters of people who are writers, or like specific genres as well - If you have any sugge …
We love reading! Some of us come along every month, others just for books they are interested in. Emails come out to announce the upcoming bookclubs, then a reminder is sent out the week and day before we meet. Books are suggested by the group, usually three at a time, at the end of the meetings, so come prepared to share yours! The conversation might start with the book but drifts on to other things as well. We meet once a month, generally the last Thursday of the month. Meeting at a pub gives …
A quirky relaxed group that gathers monthly to drink copious amounts of coffee/chai/tea/beer and have interesting conversations on the latest read. We meet on the second or third Tuesday of the month. The books we discuss vary month-to-month and include fiction & non-fiction - memoirs, trashy page-turners, adventure/thriller, philosophy, fantasy, history etc. We ocassionaly mix it up with play readings and events to theatre productions/art exhibitions. Sydney Philosophy Circle is a fortnightly discussion group that's been running since the start of 2007. It began life as the Russoc discussion group (of Sydney University) in August 2004. Anyone with the remotest interest in philosophy (whatever that word might mean) is welcome to attend. The usual agenda is to discuss a different topic/author/book/essay each meeting (see the list of previous topics in the message board section for some indication of what we've talked about). Normally some …
Gleebooks’ Book Talks and Politics In The Pub are two of Sydney’s great institutions for the thoughtful and the curious. Having attended both for many years, I think there should be a meetup for others to do the same as a group. This meetup is for people who wish to attend talks given by authors and writers about books and/or politics. A number of other bookshops and libraries hold book talks as well. Any member may suggest an event like this, anywhere in Sydney Metro. And of course, the Sydney …

Dr Anita Johnston’s book “Eating in the Light of the Moon” is the focus of this group. This book is one of a kind, in how it helps us to understand how young girls and women struggle with eating disorders. Each fortnight attendees will be asked to read a chapter of the book before attending the group. The group will begin with attendee reflections from their reading of the chapters; this will then be followed by discussion questions. A therapist will be present to facilitate discussion about the …
The intention behind this meetup group is an experiment to see if social media can be used to promote ALL the Science Fiction, Fantasy and Sci-Fi meetings that take place in Sydney over a year. Initially and foremost this meetup group will serve as a 'waiting room' for the annual Sydney Freecon (a Free Entry SF convention) and the monthly Sydney Futurian SF&F discussion meetings. I also hope to post news each month of Sydney's other meetings of interest to SF&F or Sci-Fi fans. My personal intere …

OK, so 'non-fiction novelist' is a bit of an oxymoron, but what I mean is authors of creative non-fiction (i.e., not text books, or fiction set in an authentic historical setting) who are working on substantial projects that retell actual events using the techniques of fiction and varying degrees of creative licence, and who would like to publish for a general readership. Projects can be at any stage - if you're researching an event or figure and believe there's a great book in it you're welcome …

“What's mine is yours: The Rise of Collaborative Consumption” is one of the most ground-breaking business book of the recent times. Similarly Rachel Botsman's speech The Case for Collaborative Consumption on TED.com had excellent reception. Collaborative Consumption is defined by Wikipedia as an economic model based on sharing, swapping, bartering, trading or renting access to products as opposed to ownership. This group is around the concept of Collaborative Consumption. In our meetings, we’ll …
