There are few book groups in the area but they seem to be quite spiritual and intellectual. This club is a chance for like minded people to meet and discuss any topic of book we like. Every month, the group will decide on which book to read and we will meet once a month to discuss what we thought.

Although called Caversham Critics, this book group is open to all friendly Reading based fiction lovers. We shall explore old and modern classics, contemporary fiction, and perhaps even pretend to be judges by comparing our notes on the shortlists for the big literary prizes. We aim to meet monthly in a pub in central Reading. We are just getting started, so if the club sounds like your cup of tea, don't hesitate, join and spread the word!

My proposed starting restaurant is the Standard Tandoori on Caversham Road on the basis that it is well known, been around since 1980 and has a nice pub just up the road. … Unlike many other groups, we do not have a membership fee, but we cover this cost and other expenses involved in running the group (such as advertising to attract new members, booking fees, telephone calls, etc), by charging £1 for each meetup event attended. We hope you will agree that £1 is a very reasonable charge for all the hard work that goes on in the background to make this group a success and continue to grow, and be happy to pass this amount to the Event Host when attending an event.  …
