Hello Everyone, I've started this book club because I'd like to read a bit more and also meet some new people. I've never been in a book club before so the first meeting may involve winging it a bit :-) I think we can all look forward to meeting new people and discovering some books we might never have otherwise picked up. The heart of this project is a focus on the importance of fairy tales as a creative force both in literature and culture. Literary fairy tales can be seen, in terms of genre, to mediate between, on the one hand, folktales, from which they often derive both form and content; and on the other, the more elaborate narratives of full-blown fantasy novels. The Dinner Ladies is a social group for gay women in Portsmouth and surrounding areas. Our activities include meals out, walking, cycling, camping, book group, discos, extreme swimming, etc. There is no membership fee - just sign up and come and join us. The group is for couples and singles who are over 25.
… We try to make our outings unique – they are researched by the organisers – rather than being taken from a book. Members are also encouraged to make suggestions and to lead if they are happy to do so. We aim to post walks for alternate Sundays, interspersed with bike rides – and members are welcome to come as often as they wish, tell your friends or bring them along as guests, they would always be made welcome.
