This is an attempt to see how many people in San Francisco are as big fantasy novel lovers as I am and if they want to get together once or twice a month to do a book club. Some of my favorite authors are Tolkien, Eddings, Goodkind, Jordan, Butcher, Ann Marston, and my personal fantasy writer god is Guy Gavriel Kay. So, join up if you're interested. I'd love to schedule a first book club meeting sometime in mid February. Ideas for places to meet? A restaurant, coffee shop?

We are a group of women (and the occasional man) who since Fall 2009 have met on the second Tuesday (usually) of every month for dinner and discussion of our latest read. The restaurant is chosen from favorite spots in San Carlos or nearby Belmont and Redwood City; the dinner reservation is set for 6:30pm. We choose our books by democratic process and rotate through literary fiction, popular fiction and even the occasional non-fiction pick. We try to pick books that have been released in paperba …
Meet other apocalypse sci fi lovers over drinks at various cozy bars in the city! Each month we will read a book with an apocalyptic setting picked by either the organizer or voted upon by members. P.S. Some people have asked about what the 1.00 fee is/how is it used.... Most meetup events charge a low fee because meetup costs to start a group. (when an organizer makes a group they have to pay before it is posted. This fee helps reimburse me for the money I paid, as well as cutting down on …

Immanuel Lutheran Church in Los Altos hosts this book discussion group for the South Bay community. All are welcome to join us in discussions about thought-provoking books. We usually take a month or two to read a book, and then meet to discuss it. (We know how busy you are, so if you don't finish the book, please join us for the discussion anyway.) We are looking forward to meeting you and hearing what you have to say!

The year is 2012. You are in San Francisco. You are ready to awaken. Actually, you've been awakening. You’ve read spiritual books and maybe attended meetings and retreats. You love Awakening Conversations that deepens your Presence. You are ready to give up ego, drama, suffering, mirages, and unconscious relationships. The ego is not as ready to give up sometimes. We can together create this space to return to peace. You want to find inner peace, conscious loving and continue on your next step i …

This is a group for women in their 30s who feel they are going through major transitions in life, i.e., career, family, new home, friendships/relationships, spirituality, etc. As a woman in my 30's, I definitely experienced this transition and I am still going through it now. It seems that the 30's is such an important stage in life when you are redefining yourself, establishing yourself and asserting who you are as an adult in the world. My purpose in creating this group is to create a space fo …
Let's read and discuss mysteries! High brow or low brow, as long as its interesting and well written. I'm interested in discovering new authors and sharing my favorites.
Digital distribution and the proliferation of reading devices are bringing great changes to what we think of as books, and their attendant industries. This meetup is about exploring all aspects of this change, from cultural, professional, technical, and experiential points of view. We welcome fans, critics, innovators, and skeptics, as we bring some thought and exploration of where we are headed.

I am new to San Francisco from the east coast and looking to meet some new girlfriends. I started and was a member of a book club in New Jersey and loved it. This group is for ladies only (sorry boys) in their 20s/early 30s who are looking to meet some new friends and share their love of reading. After all, there is nothing like a good book to start a conversation! And of course, a few cocktails will be involved. Looking for some fun, chilled out ladies who want to make great friends and have go …

Poetry, short stories, plays, novels, history, philosophy, science, not necessarily in that order, classics that are worthy of discussion, current and past, western and non-western, these are the works we discuss. The discussion is what is most important. We discuss these works to enlarge our understanding of the ideas that shape our culture and gain a deeper appreciation for what it means to be human.
