So what's the worst part of most book groups? Being forced to read a book you simply don't want to read. And what's the best part: getting all those great book recommendations! In this meet up, we're going to dispense with the book *reading* and go straight to the recommending ... and we'll do it with a game I call the "Book Auction". Each participant brings 2 of their favorite books (1 fiction, 1 non-fiction) -- these can be books off your shelf, or new purchases from a store. At the door, ever …
About the East Bay Book Club The East Bay Book Club is a very dynamic group of individuals who share one thing in common: an enthusiasm for books. Meetings are devoted to various genres, both contemporary and classic. Although the club is based in Berkeley, CA, book readers from any geographical area are welcome to join. The club's …

Have you ever heard of Naked Girls Reading? It’s a group of ladies who enjoy giving readings of various works to a large audience au naturel. The group originated in Chicago two years ago when the founder’s husband caught his naked wife lying in repose focused intently on her book. At that moment, both agreed that there was something amazingly powerful about reading sans culottes. As a PhD literature grad student and a nudist, I have been doing this for years! And now, I think it’s the perfect t …

Meet kindred book lovers in a local Meetup Book Club! We began in October of 2005, with 8 members. Over the years, we have lost old members & gained new members. Our members range in age from 30's to 60's so there is no age requirement for this group. We meet in the general Walnut Creek area, reading a new book every month - fiction, paperback, under 500 pages. Come to laugh, share stories and make new friends! We meet the third Saturday of every month, 11AM - 12:30PM at various locations in Ple …
Ever notice those numbers on the side of the books in libraries? Ever wonder what they meant? Sure, I'd heard of the Dewey Decimal System, but I never quite understood it. So I decided to read my way through the Dewey Decimals, and I invite you to join me! Each month we'll focus on one section, from the 100's to the 900's, and discuss one featured title. This club is sponsored by the San Rafael Public Library.
Join the Biz-erkeley Book Club. We meet on the third Thursday of each month at the Berkeley City Club, 2315 Durant Ave., Berkeley, CA.
Welcome to our Meetup! The book club is structured around reading and discussing one non-fiction book each month, typically on the second Sunday of the month but rescheduled as needed based on holidays or other special events. Meetups are facilitated by the organizer (or an occasional guest) to provide structure and direction to the discussion. All members are encouraged to provide their opinions, and all opinions are valued and respected. At the end of the meeting members will vote on a list of …

This meet up is for women who love to read engaging and thought provoking books and share their thought on its take on history, politics, culture and so on.
This is a book club. It is also a support group. Our simple goal? Get through the 3000+ plus pages of "In Search of Lost Time" (Remembrance of Things Past) by Marcel Proust. I'm a practical reader; I know that I need a plan in order to have any hope of getting through a novel like this. I also know that I need accountability, so that I won't end up just skimming Swann's Way to say that I've "read Proust." So here's my plan: 1. Spread it out over a year. Think of it this way - my version has abou …

… We are fans of the 19th Century Novel, Great Books, The Western Canon and the Classics; and believe that good writing comes from great reading. Bring your favorite Dickens quotes and another novel by a different author from the same period for comparison; or just yourselves for fun and a wallow in the greatest humorist of his time. We will first meet at the Concord Public Library Meeting Room, 2900 Salvio St., Concord, at 7:00 PM Thursday March 29th 2012.

This group was started because my book club never read the books. We decided to go to the theatre and have a discussion after the show. Town Hall thought it was a great idea and it's now an official theatre event that includes a talk back with the cast a free glass of wine. Go to www.townhalltheatre.com for more information. You can usually show a few minutes before the show and buy your tickets at the box office.
