If you would like to read those books that you feel you ought to have read but have never gotten around to it, then this is the group for you. Book selections will be chosen from "1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die," edited by Peter Boxall. The list of books, which comprises selections in many genres from the 1600s-2000s, is in the Files section. We try to have two meetings per month. The main meeting, which I organize, is dedicated to a more modern classic (post-1900) while the second meet …

Ours is a book club on the old model: a long-term, ongoing group of women that reads and discusses a variety of books and enjoys great friendships. We're now just over a year old, and while people have come and gone, a core group is in the process of forming. Our meetings are fun, boisterous affairs where lots of interesting and often diverging views are aired. The books we read span a wide spectrum: fiction, biography, non-fiction, classics, etc. We don't read self-help or how-to books, and w …
I love to read and would love to belong to a book club. I live in Hyde Park and would like to form a group with people that live in the same general area. We could get together once a month (or every other month) to discuss a chosen book and enjoy each other's company. I'm in my 50's, but it would be great to have members of various ages join the club.
This group is for people who live in and around the Quad Cities and love to read. We're about building friendships, as well as reading some great stories. Once a month, we read a specified book and then meet to discuss it. We like to chat quite a bit, but it's more about the books than anything! Hope to see you soon! Tricia and Eve
Hi we are a little different that your average book club. Yes we read the some of the "typical book club books". But we also have read non-fiction, classics, horror, self-help and wonderful books by authors you haven't heard of. In addition to book choices from the organizers, member can submit choices and lead the discussion. We even have a few men that occasionally attend. More are always welcome. :-) We aren't traditionalist in how you read the books either, hard back, soft cover, kindle, no …

If you love a good book discussion but sometimes it feels like a school assignment to finish the book in time and/or maybe read a book you really don't want to read then this is the book group custom made for you. We get together one Tuesday evening a month, every member brings a favorite book of hers to share, either one she has read very recently or one from the past that will not be forgotten. This is a great way to meet new friends and at the same time add to that "to be read" list. We do in …
I am starting this group to find people who share my love of books and reading - especially fun mysteries and cozies. I am completely open to meetup places in the Northern suburbs - Buffalo Grove, Deerfield, Northbrook, Lincolnshire, Riverwoods areas! All are welcome! Are you an avid reader who'd like to get together with other women regularly to discuss books over some fine wine? The aim of this group is to expand our thoughts and perceptions through great discussions about books. We all bring our own experiences, culture, and filters into the perception and understanding of literature, and hopefully these discussions will all enrich us. We'll choose serious fictional and non-fictional books that are fairly recent releases (within the last 20 years for the m …

A book club for mystery lovers! We will read new authors as well as the classics. Explore what makes a great mystery. Socialize and have fun.
Hmm.. Child of the 80s Book Club. What does that mean?! Do we have Judd Nelson over for poetry readings? Is it necessary to wear black spangly bracelets and quote Madonna? Do we choose to read the biographies of John Hughes and Joy Division? No! "Child of the 80s" is more a time frame state-of-mind. In other words a) you want to read great books that open you up to new ideas/literature/feelings/art; b) you enjoy diverse people; c) you are somewhere between post-college and Medicare (although …

The goal is to have fun discussing & sharing our thoughts & ideas on the literature we've read over glasses of wine. The group is new (Spring 2012) & was started with a small group that met at a wine bar. We're growing now & would like to welcome new members. I've noticed many groups are women only; we aren't gender restrictive, but you must …
Celebrate your freedom to read! BANNED! is the perfect book club for anyone who enjoys reading and thinks that literary censorship has gone a little too far. We will be working through the Banned and Challenged Book list from the Radcliff Publishing Course Top 100 Novels of the 20th Century as well as the NCTE Banned and Challenged Book list and will be discussing not only the book, but why it has been banned or challenged in the US and if we agree that it should be banned from our libraries and …

This group is for anyone who loves YA, fantasy, paranormal, sci-fi, romance, chick lit or all of the above!!! Reading the book prior to a meetup is never mandatory, but be prepared for spoilers! Meetups will be scheduled once a month, maybe more in the future, at different locations around Oak Creek, Franklin and the surrounding areas. While this is primarily a book club meetups will include movies and other fun events that seem fitting as well! Book swaps are also encouraged to open everyone up …
The Book (Was Better) Club is for cinephiles and bookworms alike. Each month, members will select a book for which a film adaptation was (or will be) made. To keep discussions productive, caps will be placed on how many may attend a given meeting, but meet-ups will be held at least twice a month. So if you don't R.S.V.P. in time for one, just join another! Events will range from discussions (over coffee, tea, wine, or my personal favorite: FOOD) to in-home movie viewings and trips to the cinema.
Interested in joining a book club where everyone actually reads the books and wants to talk about them? Join this group! We will select books from various lists like Time Magazine's Best Books of All Time, 1001 Books to Read Before You Die, the NY Times best books lists, and anything else we choose! Each meetup will be loosely structured to include discussion topics as well as friendly conversation! "Vonnegut" together??

This club is for anyone (chico or chica!) who loves to dive in and digest the wisdom from authors like Williamson, Chopra, Dyer, and so on. I started this group because the only thing I love more than reading these books is discussing the self-growth and awareness with like-minded folks! We'll start by taking a few weeks to read the same book and then meet discuss our impressions in the Streeterville/Gold Coast area. My hope is that this group opens up hearts and minds, along with formulates n …

This a book club based around the Persephone Books series from the UK (for more info: http://www.persephonebooks.co.uk/).
If you're not familiar with Persephone Books, they are fiction and non-fiction books written by forgotten female authors of the twentieth century and they are amazing! If you are into feminism, literature, history and/or anglophilia, you should join us!
PLEASE NOTE: Participation in the club will probably require a small investment in purchasing the books each month (they are …

This is a group for people who like reading, sharing, discussing, and (every once in a while) smelling books. What's that you say? There are already a bunch of book clubs, and you already know what you want to read? Well, I'd like to think that this one will knock those other clubs out of the water with our (forthcoming) charismatic, smart, funny crowd. It'll be a little more fluid in structure than those other clubs- people can read whatever book(s) they want, and all genres are welcome (though …
This group will meet on the last Sunday of every month from 1pm-3pm. Books for each month are picked by the group so please bring suggestions. This book club is for LGBTQ individuals. The books selected are focused directly or indirectly at the LGBTQ community. We also will have get-togethers on the 2nd Saturday night of each month for fun and just a basic night out. Whether it be to dinner, theatre, or other entertainment.
This is Book Club for those who have a passion for reading. We will select books that are simply so good you have to talk about it ! If you have a book you have read and you want to swap with someone that would be great too. If you have not yet read the book but have heard about it. We will read our fav parts and hopefully motivate you. Men and women ages 18 and up are welcome.

Let's get together to discuss some excellent books over fantastic food. We'll meet monthly on a weeknight in the Evanston/Rogers Park area. No background in lit crit necessary, but we will all try to read the books and have thoughtful insight. And a joy of eating is perhaps a must. Fiction and non-fiction are on the table. This is a monthly book club that will meet on the last Monday (evening) of the month & discuss the books that were read. The meet up place can change from coffee shops to personal homes, where ever the wind takes us on the north side. A new book will be decided after every meet up based on participant votes. The book club is supposed to be relaxed and social & to bring people together who love to read & want to meet new people in the north side neighborhoods.
