I decided to start the group because I cannot find a book club that assigns books that are more to my liking. So I am hoping to find other girls who will enjoy the type of books I love to read. I read both fiction and non fiction, but my main interest is stories that touch upon specific things: feminism, sexuality, mental health, etc. So join my group if you are looking to stay local in Brooklyn, like to drink and like to read.

There are tons of book clubs, but I could not find a book club around Brooklyn that explored queer literature. Womp. As a lesbian, I would like to read books with characters and stories that I can empathize with, understand or at the least simply recognize. So I thought, fudge it, I will make my own group so I can explore queer lit. with my queer family. This Book Club will cover queer fiction and non-fiction. Some books will have clear queer main characters, while other books may be more subtle …

Inspired by a recent story in the Wall Street Journal, about a long-running reading group in which the members read books aloud -- 35 or so pages a meeting -- they've read Dickens, Milton, Tolstoy, Faulkner, the Brontes, Eliot, Austen. In addition to the book we're reading (our first is The Transit of Venus), we've begun meetings by reading other short pieces or poems.
We are a group of friendly, diverse, neighborhood women who like good books and lively conversation. We favor books that are well-written and allow us to learn a bit about some period in history and/or another culture. We are price conscious, and have never put a hardcover book on our list. Our membership is limited to 20 people, but spots do open regularly. Our meetings are limited to 10, on a first-RSVP-first-come basis. Please join us if you love great writing, are open to reading new th …
*** Members decide which books we read. Check out "About Us" to learn more. *** The top three reasons to join the Woodbridge/Edison Book Club: (1) Read books you might not otherwise pick up; broaden your horizons! (2) Share in intelligent (but not stuffy) conversations about books and life. (3) Have fun in a comfortable setting, have a snack, and make new friends.
I have been getting so much out of a certain genre of literature that I decided to see if anyone else wanted to read and discuss them. All of these books are terrific depictions of the journey out of emptiness and back into the vitality of being alive. They always inspire. Anyone who finds the topic of re-discovering spiritual health and innocence, particularly if the starting point is a jaded love for self-destruction should join this meet-up. We'll meet weekly and peel one of these novels apar …

This is a group for anyone who enjoys reading books on personal improvement and spirituality, but too often has no one to discuss them with! Sometimes sharing these ideas with other like-minded seekers is the only way to truly manifest them in your life and to bring about positive change. I am interested in a broad range of topics: christianity, buddhism, self-improvement (Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra and others like them), meditation, health and wellness, journaling for healing, etc., etc., as wel …

Rob and I decided to start this group to help individuals find like minded people to develop spiritually. We plan to read books by such authors as Eckhart Tolle, Marianne Williamson, Wayne Dyer, and Deepak Chopra. We will read a chapter during the week and discuss what we have read during our time together. Our intention is that we can learn more about ourselves and take what we learn to dismantle old beliefs patterns and perceptions that are not serving us and develop new ones that do. Love in …
